Valve terminals have evolved. Today, they combine pneumatics with next-generation electronics to produce a more efficient and high performing integrated automation platform. Standards-based valve terminals can now control electric and pneumatic drives, govern sensory and motion control, perform safety functions and offer built-in diagnostics with integrated bus connections.

What are Standards Based Valve Terminals?

In traditional pneumatic systems, every solenoid coil had to be separately wired up to the relevant controller, with every individual valve requiring a separate electrical connection as well as its own connectors and tubing. Today's modular valve terminals require far fewer peripherals than the same number of individual stand-alone valves, reducing wiring errors and installation costs. Standards-based valve terminals contain valves that comply with ISO 15407-1, ISO 15407-2 and ISO 5599-2. These standards-based valves are available with a wide range of valve functions and meet all the requirements of the ISO regulations, available as a plug-in manifold mounted valve or for an individual connection. Standards-based valves are available for multi-connection, AS-I connection or Fieldbus connection. Standards based valve terminals are now capable of both analogue and digital I/O, regulating proportional pressure, motion and drive control, measuring position, pressure and temperature and advanced safety functions. The number of valves depends on the pneumatic interface and the system configuration; it can number in the thousands, with multiple types that permit precision control of pneumatic drives for the most demanding applications.
